They say when your space is cluttered, your mind is cluttered.
I have definitely experienced the benefits of decluttering my home. I’m waaaayyy less stressed, I can think more clearly, and it’s a million times easier to clean. I feel so much more productive and better about myself when my home is clean and tidy.
Throughout my decluttering journey I have found several items that were super helpful and made a HUGE difference in decluttering my space. Many of these items are reusable which also saved me lots of money.
I wanted to share these items with you in a helpful list that you can save for future reference when you are in decluttering mode!
Electronic Notebook
I got SOOOO EXCITED when I found out about this! As much as I love doing things digitally, I still like to use a notebook for certain things. But at the same time, I hated having to store all the notebooks once they were filled. Not to mention I felt guilty about using all that paper.
That’s why I love the idea of a electronic notebook. It gives you the satisfaction of writing with a pen, but you can then send the page to popular cloud services like Google Drive and then wipe off what you wrote! I especially love this for being able to store everything together in one digital place rather than have a bunch of notebooks to look through.
Paperless Notepad
This was another super fun find for me! I used to have countless notepads for doodling, writing grocery lists and quick to do notes. This electronic tablet allows you to write, doodle, trace etc, and then delete it. It comes with different templates: lined paper, planner, etc – which I LOVE. The planner template is great for writing out your day and then deleting it at night when you are done. No more paper waste, no more notebook clutter.
Rechargeable Batteries
This is one of those things that I saw around but never really gave it much thought. I used to just buy packs of batteries and stash them in the closet until I needed them.
But WOW what a difference such a small change can make. Not only does this save me money and time from having to buy batteries, but I also don’t have to store packs of batteries in my closet. I used to have open packs of batteries in my closet which would always fall out of their package and end up scattered. Now I have a nice compact charger and need to only stash a couple of rechargeable batteries away.
Scanner
Keeping on the subject of paper clutter, I love having a scanner for pieces of paper you receive that can be kept digitally. Paper clutter can pile up very quickly so I like to get rid of it or scan it as soon as possible. It’s easy for me to scan and then have folders on my computer which I can transfer the files to.
I found this great for pictures, recipes, and documents. Just be careful of getting rid of physical documents that you need a physical copy of!
E-Reader
I know reading on an e-reader isn’t the same as holding an actual book in your hands, and that’s why I was hesitant on trying an e-reader. I loved physical books. I liked the look and feel of a real book in my hands. But at the same time I wasn’t a fan of how much space books can take up. I ended up buying a kindle because I really liked the idea of all my books being in one place, and e-books were almost always cheaper than buying physical books.
I ended up actually really loving it! I quickly got used to it and actually enjoy using it much more than a physical book now. I’ve saved a ton of money on books, I don’t have to hold pages open, it’s so light and easy to travel with, and it has cool features like being able to make the text bigger.
File Organizer
For all those paper documents that you can’t throw away, I put them all in a simple file organizer. I like how it has dividers and it is very compact. I now have all my important documents stored away in a little corner of my closet. This way I know exactly where important documents are, and I don’t have random papers around my home.
Cable Management Box
One of my biggest pet peeves is having a big tangled bunch of cords. It instantly makes a room look messy no matter how tidy the rest of the room is. Having them in one box makes it look less cluttered, and makes it a whole lot easier to clean.
Reusable Sticky Notes
These are a super fun alternative to paper sticky notes. They are reusable sticky notes, like mini white boards. I like these because they not only save me from having to buy packs of paper sticky notes, but I find them more fun to write my reminders on. I think they also look less cluttered than traditional sticky notes.
Baskets
I love love LOVE using cute baskets as catch alls all over my house. They are perfect for hiding clutter and make everything look organized, cute, and cohesive. I like using ones that have labels so I don’t have to guess what’s inside.
Entryway Organizer
The entryway naturally gets super cluttered because it’s such a high traffic area. Purses, keys, wallets, and mail are the most common culprits. It would get me so stressed looking at the entry way because it was the first thing myself and my guests would see every time you would walk into my home.
My entryway is small so I opted for a cute organizer that I could hang by the door and it made ALL the difference. Having a little space for each item makes it easy to keep tidy, and it’s way easier to clean. You also won’t have to hear the dreaded “I cant find my keys!”
Purse Organizer
Another area that can get super cluttered with miscellaneous items is your purse. And since I use my purse daily, it was important to me to have it organized. These are fantastic and there are different sizes out there whether you love big or small purses.
Drawer Dividers
Another area that I use daily and was important to me to have organized was my dresser drawers. When you have everything in compartments it makes it so much easier to find what you’re looking for, and it is nicer to look at.
Reusable “Paper” Towels
I always kind of knew paper towels were bad for my pocket and the environment but it was hard for me to find a paper towel substitute that I still found worked as well. I tried using regular towels instead but I never found them to be as absorbent as paper towels. And then I found these beauties. They are super absorbent and machine washable. These are so compact and so much easier to store than those big rolls of paper towels.
Reusable Grocery Bags
These reusable grocery bags are not only better for the environment than your standard plastic bags, but they roll up sooo small! Gone are the days where I had that disaster of a grocery bag drawer!
Drying Mat
If you don’t have a dishwasher or you have a lot of items that can’t be dish washed, then perhaps you have shared my pain of having ugly dish racks. They can be so bulky and hard to put away when not in use. But I really wanted a clutter free countertop so I opted for a dish mat. It looks so much more sleek and can be rolled up and put away when not in use.
Pretty Pill Organizer
I’m definitely one of those people that forget to take my vitamins if they are not on the counter. But I hated the cluttered look of a bunch of pill bottles on the counter. I found this super cute pill organizer that comes in different colors to match your decor. It is such a sleek and beautiful alternative to ugly pill bottles and it’s also great for travel.
Under Shelf Organization
Under the sink can get so chaotic and become a place where multiple cleaning supplies get forgotten. I can’t even count how many times I have found unused cleaning supplies under the sink because they were hiding under all the clutter.
I finally FINALLY bought an under the sink organizer and it’s made ALL the difference. I can finally see where everything is and I no longer end up buying 5 bottles of glass cleaner.
Adjustable Measuring Spoon
There are lots of cute measuring spoon sets out there, but they tend to come apart and get scattered all over my kitchen drawer. I fell in love with these adjustable measuring spoons because now I have all the sizes in one compact spoon.
Cutting Board Set
I knew I had a cutting board problem but I didn’t want to admit it. I loved having cutting boards in all shapes, sizes and materials. It got to a point where I had more cutting boards then I would probably ever use. These cutting boards are a great solution because they give you the option of having different surfaces for different foods in one compact board.
Fridge Organizers
Whenever my fridge is cluttered and unorganized, food sadly always gets wasted. I can’t see what’s in the back and I forget about things that I bought. Fridge organizers are fantastic because they organize your food, give you more space in your fridge, and are easy to take out to clean the fridge.
I really hope you enjoyed this post! Comment below on any items you find helpful when organizing and decluttering. Don’t forget to save this post for future reference!
