How to Dress Better
1. Get to Know Your Style
Getting to know your style is probably the most important tip on how to dress better. If you don’t know what kind of style you like, then you’ll be all over the place with fashion and it’ll be hard to create a cohesive wardrobe.
Get some inspo online and see what outfits and what styles you are drawn to. Then take a look at your own closet and see what you like and what you don’t.
You’ll eventually get an idea of what kind of outfits you like and what you don’t. Knowing this will make it a lot easier to apply the other tips discussed here, and it’ll be easier to create a wardrobe that you love.
You might find it helpful if you make some notes on what kind of style and fit you like that you can easily reference back to if needed.
2. Evaluate Your Closet
Now that you have somewhat of an idea of what you like, take a look at your closet and see if it coincides with what you like and what you want your closet to look like.
Any item you don’t like, doesn’t fit, or the condition is bad, it’s probably time to let it go. If you are unsure of an item and don’t want to part ways just yet, put it aside somewhere where you can reevaluate later.
Your closet should typically only consist of items you truly love or necessary items.
3. Take Care of Your Clothes
A really important tip on how to dress well is to take care of your clothes. You can have some of the nicest clothes but if they are in poor condition then they won’t look good.
Clothes that are covered in pet hair, wrinkles, or those little fuzz balls, all won’t look good, no matter how expensive they were.
So having some tools on hand, to take care of your clothes quickly can help keep your clothes looking good for longer.
Using items like a steamer, lint roller, and clothes shaver to take care of clothes can make a HUGE difference in how your outfit looks.
You don’t have to take a lot of time to do this either. Try just taking a couple minutes once a week to look through your closet and see if you can do a little maintenance. This will save you loads of time later on.

4. Quality Over Quantity
One of the best tips on how to dress well is to purchase good quality items instead of a bunch of cheap pieces.
You’ll look more stylish if you save your money and invest in quality over quantity.
You don’t need a ton of items of clothing, trust me, you’re outfits will look better with better quality pieces, and you’ll love your closet more.
Having one or two good quality basics will look a lot more put together than a bunch of really cheap ones.
5. Invest in Good Basics
Speaking of basics, investing in good basics can make or break a stylish outfit. Good basics are the foundation of a great outfit.
It’s usually a good idea to get basics in neutral colors to make it easier to mix and match and for layering.
If you take a look online at stylish outfits, most of them will have basics either alone, or layered with another piece.
6. Limit Trendy Pieces
It can be tempting to run out and buy the latest trend, but try and do this sparingly.
Trends come and go, and it can be a little intimidating trying to keep up with the latest trends. It can be hard on the wallet too.
Sticking to good basics and classic pieces are always a safe bet. And you can add trendy pieces here and there in your wardrobe whenever you really love a trend.
7. Don’t Forget to Accessorize
Many people forget that an outfit also includes accessories. Jewellery, shoes, and purses are all great accessories that can pull an outfit together.
When you search online for outfit inspo take a note of what accessories you like as well. You can incorporate these items into your outfits too.
Just remember that quality over quantity should apply to accessories too!
8. Have Go-To Outfits
One tip on how to feel put together, even when you are in a rush, is to have go-to outfits.
These are outfits that are easy to put together, you feel good in, and are comfortable.
Have a ‘template’ of outfits that you like and that you can switch up but grab quickly. By template I mean an outfit that you really love and just recreating it with different pieces.
For example, if your favorite outfit template is a cute skirt and a sweater, then you can switch out the skirt and sweater for different colors and patterns, but the overall outfit is still the same.

9. Pay Attention to the Fit
Often times when we buy clothes we over look the fit of it, especially if we really love how it looks on the hanger.
We might try it on, think we like it, but later on, feel like something isn’t right when you wear it.
When you try something on, really pay attention to how it fits on YOUR body, not the mannequin. We might love how it looks on the mannequin or on someone else, but every body is different and shaped differently, and that’s ok!
Make sure you love how it fits on you.
10. Get Inspired
We talked a lot about getting inspired online, and that doesn’t have to just be in the beginning when we are setting up our closet to dress better.
Whenever you feel like your outfits aren’t making you feel good anymore or you want some new idea outfits, just take a quick search online for some outfit inspiration.
Sometimes our style changes and that’s totally ok too! If that happens just reevaluate your style and your wardrobe.
11. Wear what makes you Feel Good
Hands down the most important tip in learning how to dress better is to wear what makes you feel good. Confidence makes or breaks an outfit, and if you don’t feel good in what you are wearing, it’ll show.
Don’t buy something if you are going to feel uncomfortable wearing it.
Yes you should love your outfits, but you should feel good wearing them too!
