A productive morning routine can make you feel great and really have an impact on your day!
Besides, if there’s anything that can drag down your day, it’s a bad morning.
From waking up late to not feeling refreshed after a night of sleep, mornings can be rough.
But the good news is that there are things you can do to make those first few hours of the day more productive—and happier!
I’ve found the best tips for starting your day in the best possible way.
This post is all about how to start a productive morning routine.
Best Tips For a Productive Morning Routine
1. Plan the Night Before
I believe that a good productive morning routine actually begins the night before.
It’s way easier to follow a routine when there is a good plan in place.
Find your favorite way to plan whether that be time blocking, task batching, or a simple to do list, and see whether you like to plan on paper or digitally.
The best way to plan is the one you will enjoy and stick to.
There are tons of great paper and digital planners out there to make the process easier and more fun.
When you enjoy something you are more likely to keep doing it.
2. Wake up at the same time every day
Waking up at the same time every day makes it easier to follow a productive morning routine.
It’ll be easier to wake up since your body is used to waking up at that time every day.
You’ll also know what time you have to go to bed every night since you wake up at the same time every morning.
Waking up at the same time every morning will also help you feel in control of your day, and you won’t feel so rushed.
It’ll become easier to plan your day as well.
I was not a morning person at all so I really struggled with this one.
Something that helped me immensely was purchasing a sunrise alarm clock.
This gradually wakes you up instead of that sudden jolt you get from other alarms.
Being gradually woken up made it SO much easier to wake up, and I felt way more rested!

3. Open the blinds or get outside
If the sun is out when you wake up, try letting the light in your home or step outside.
The sunlight will not only make you feel great, but can help you feel more awake as well.
This is why I love the alarm clock mentioned above because it provides a sunrise simulation which helps a lot if you do wake up when it’s dark.
4. Practice gratitude
It can be super easy to get caught up in daily stress and forget about all that we could be grateful for.
But reminding ourselves of how much we should be grateful for is an amazing way to start the day.
It’s an easy way to instantly increase your mood for the whole day!
By practicing gratitude, you can train yourself to see the positive side of any situation. Being thankful for what you already have will help take the pressure off and give you some perspective when things get tough.
There are tons of great gratitude journals out there to make this super easy!
5. Get in some movement
I’m not someone who likes to do an intense workout in the morning. I do however, like to get in a little movement when I wake up.
I find that even a little bit of movement in the morning boosts my mood, increases my energy level, and makes me feel good and focused throughout the day.
If you like doing a full workout in the morning, that’s great!
If however, you are like me and don’t necessarily like getting too intense in the morning then try some light stretching, a walk inside or in place in your home, or even do a couple push ups or squats while you wait for your coffee to brew or eggs to cook.
Whether you go to the gym or do a quick workout at home, it’s important to get your blood pumping early in the morning. Exercise boosts energy levels and helps you feel more alert and focused throughout the day.
There are also tons of light and quick workouts online as well.

There are also tons of great quick and easy breakfast recipes online.
7. Take a moment to breathe, meditate, or journal
Taking time to breathe, meditate, or journal is a great way to start your day.
Whether you’re a morning person or a night owl, it’s important that you have time to yourself every day.
This can help clear your mind and be mindful of what’s happening around you.
You may even find this helps boost creativity and productivity.
There are a lot of great meditation apps and videos online which are really helpful especially if you’re new to meditating.
If you’re not a fan of meditation, then simply taking a few moments to yourself to just breathe is an amazing way to relax.
Journaling is also a really great way to relax and start the day with a fresh mind.
I always loved the idea of journaling but never knew what to write about so I quickly gave up.
I then found guided journals which I love because it prompts you what to write.
This journal is amazing! It’s has such great prompts and has amazing reviews.
8. Make your bed
You’ve probably heard this a million times before but for good reason!
Making your bed in the morning is a small productive task that can have a ripple effect on the entire day.
Not only will you feel great, but doing something productive in the morning makes you want to do other productive things throughout the day.
You’re room will instantly feel tidier too!
9. Do a quick tidy
This ideally should be done the night before, but if you weren’t able to, then a quick tidy in the morning is a great way to start the day off right.

10. Read
Even if you don’t like reading, hear me out!
I’m not a huge fan of reading either but I have heard the many benefits of reading and I really wanted to read more self improvement books.
I started reading just 5-10 pages every morning because I figured it was a number that was short and easy enough to stick to.
It ended up becoming a habit and I usually do end up reading more, but I always tell myself I don’t have to read more than 5-10 pages if I don’t want to.
