In today’s world it’s more important than ever to learn how to relax yourself.
Life can get super busy and stressful and we can forget to take time for ourselves.
But if we don’t take time to relax we can actually become burnt out and become less productive and even more stressed.
Making sure you take some time for yourself to relax, even if it’s just a few minutes, can have a huge impact.
It can help elevate your mood, increase your productivity, and help you feel more put together.
We’ve found some of the best tips on how to relax yourself even if you only have a couple minutes a day to spare.
This post is all about how to relax yourself.
Best Tips on How to Relax Yourself
1. Go for a walk
Going for a walk is one of the easiest ways to relax yourself.
It’s free and can be done almost anywhere.
It’s a great way to relax whether you only have 5 minutes, or you have an hour to spare.
Walking outside gives you the added benefit of fresh air and being in nature, but if the weather isn’t great try walking around your home, or following a walking video online.
It may seem silly walking around your home at first, but it can actually feel calming.
2. Write in a journal
For some, writing in a journal is an amazing way to clear their head and relax.
I was someone who always loved the idea of writing in a journal, but would quickly become frustrated with not knowing what to write.
That’s why I loved things like prompted journals, gratitude journals, goal journals or even self improvement workbooks.
These type of journals are great ways to relax without the added stress of figuring out what to write.
3. Stretch
Something as simple as stretching not only feels great for the body but feels great for the mind as well.
Stretching can feel super relaxing and can be done almost anywhere and can take as little or as much time as you want.
You can do some simple stretches while standing or even on the couch. There are also tons of great stretching videos online.

4. Coloring
Adult coloring has become super popular over the last few years and for good reason.
Coloring is such an easy and fun way to relax.
There are so many fun adult coloring books and so many great coloring tools like colored pencils, markers, or even crayons.
I especially love Johanna Basford’s books because there are so many relaxing coloring tutorials online of people coloring in her books that make it easy to follow.
5. Take a bath
Taking a bath, even a quick one, can be sooo relaxing.
This is my go to when I need to relax and take a few moments to myself.
I love dimming the lights, using candles, and some bubble bath or epsom salts for extra relaxation.
6. Meet with friends or family
If you have a bit more time on your hands and have good family and friend relationships, then spending quality time with them can be a great way to relax.
Spending time with people you love can elevate your mood and make you feel really good after.
7. Change into something comfortable
It seems simple, but changing into something comfortable can make a huge difference in how you feel.
Changing into your favorite loungewear, pyjamas, or robe is a great way to instantly relax.
They even have wearable blankets for extra comfort!
8. Read a book
Reading is known for being relaxing and is a great way to wind down especially in the evening.
I love reading a book while I’m waiting somewhere (like at the doctor’s office) because it’s a great way to pass time and relax.
A Kindle is perfect for this reason because it’s super lightweight and can hold a ton of books.
9. Exercise
Exercising might not seem like something that could relax you but it definitely can!
There are plenty of slower, more relaxed ways to exercise such as doing a fun workout like yoga, swimming, going for a jog in nature, going for a bike ride, or dancing.

10. Make a warm beverage
I love treating myself to a nice warm drink as a quick way to relax.
It’s such a relaxing thing on its own but also great paired with any of these other tips like reading a book or while coloring.
I love making it a little bit extra nice by frothing the milk or adding chocolate or caramel sauce and syrup.
11. Meditate
There are tons of apps and videos online that make meditating fun and easy.
Meditating is such a great way to relax and calm your mind quickly.
And you can do it almost anywhere and at anytime.
12. Take a nap
This is one of my favorite ways to relax.
A little nap is a great way to relax and feel recharged.
A 10 – 20 minute nap is said to be the best to wake up feeling energized. Napping for too long however can have the opposite effect and make you feel groggy after.
13. Plan your day
For some this might create more stress, but for others it can be a way to feel relaxed.
Something about planning your day can help you feel more in control of your day and can help you feel a bit more relaxed.
If you are someone who finds planning stressful, try planning the night before instead of the day of, try using a digital planner instead of a paper one, or try a different type of planning such as task batching or time blocking.
For some a simple to do list might work best. Try different types and see what works best for you because a well planned day can help you feel more relaxed.
